Little pleasures of life include leaving your new cosmetics in their packaging and laying them out to admire for a few minutes each day.

He was teasing the crowd and eventually BARED IT ALL! I was gaping when I should’ve been snapping!

It was a riot! The spectators were insane - I was never immersed in such energy, gay men were dancing on their fire escapes (I imagine to Kylie or Madonna) , and the parade was as flamboyant as I expected it to be! Despite the skies pouring on us 20 minutes into the parade, the crowd cheered louder and the show went on…

To top it all off, I got to rub his belly for some good luck. Gay pride 2008 totally rocked!

I paid the incredulous fee and am now enrolled for night classes at flower school NY – that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for going after my own heart.

The above picture was taken at Olive Tree Cafe – where patrons are given chalk to act like oversized kids and doodle. I think I had ‘flower school new york’ sprawled at least 8 times over. And then I adjourned to the Comedy Cellar , there’s nothing quite like stand-up comedy. Loves it.

Got quite a handful of home accessories from Anthropologie, that ranks as one of my favourite stores. Quite like Muji, I wish I could buy everything and model my space after its displays. Its the kind of place that has this elusive glow, reaches out to you and takes you in against your will.

Ok, maybe its just me.

Of course, I got ‘E’ and ‘G’ for the monogram items, and the apron is for I feel like dressing up for the kitchen or when I wanna play a stepford wife :)

There’s nothing quite like picking out your favourite charms from bowls of hundreds for your own one-of-a-kind trove of personal treasures.

My errands for the day saw me going by the Museum of Modern Art to shop for gifts for our guests for an upcoming summit. Of course I took the chance to do a spot of personal shopping and picked up beautiful cards (MoMa over Hallmark anyday), another Moleskin notebook and irresistably cute knick knacks that I don’t really need.

I enjoy birthdays in the office.

Kim, the latest addition to the PR team who loves SATC as much as her LV speedy, turned 23 today. As for me? I had prosecco and red velvet cake; what’s not to love?

4 down

23 06 2008

So my weekend didn’t go as planned, and that’s a bit much for me to take given how I border on obsessive together with my moleskin organiser in hand.

But NYC is engineered for the spontaneous. Over-planning it will spoil all the fun; you go to Central Park when the weather’s perfect – there’s no questioning the intentions of NYC.

Despite booking a wrong tour, and have the rain chase me for 4 streets making me beat every light (all the shelters were maxed out with people seeking refuge) – I had a grand time.

I went to Soho, loved it, and uncovered many gems. I left Soho with a lot of damage done to my wallet too.

I went on a tour that took us through the Brooklyn Bridge, in that moment I felt like I was gliding- it was magnificent.

I took in the lights of Times Sq – and found out that a single billboard there costs USD175,000 a month.

I had a heavenly ham quiche for breakfast to fuel me for what was to come on Sunday.

I made an indulgent purchase at Macy’s (more on that another time).

I ooohed and aaahhhed at the stunning modern architecture of NYC.

The historical buildings did a fab job impressing me as well.

I ventured out of the Manhattan area and got a peek of Harlem.

And a glimpse of New Jersey.

I visited the Apple store and am now deliberating between the iPod touch or RED nano – any suggestions, anyone? Since we’re on that, any idea what I should get engraved on the back of my to-be iPod?

An Egyptian food vendor during the weekends and singer/performer come weekdays insisted on giving me his number. He also proposed bringing me back to Egypt to be his QUEEN - his name? Tito Spicy. Too cute!

I queued in line for one of the best Falafels in NYC – anything with a queue in NYC is pretty darn good, time pressed and jaded new yorkers would otherwise not bother.

Now, I’ve got to shuffle around my shopping bags and make space in this apartment that still isn’t quite home – but it will do. Its back to work tomorrow, but at least I had a heck of a weekend. :)

love and light,

22 06 2008

I got my photograph taken today,

By a man who captured images of…HK starlet Gigi Leung,

…and Karl Largerfield,

The place was SoHo; where the weekends see dozens of street side vendors selling their wares, artists exhibiting their art and then there was Ricardo who takes your portrait and transfers it to paperstock in 3 minutes for you.

I love, love, love SoHo and I am definitely taking E to Ricardo to get our portrait taken – would french kissing against the backdrop of NYC be too cheesy?

For now though, here’s me.

cosmos & cherries

21 06 2008

I would be bored by me if I were you; if only I had tales of glitz and the high life here in NYC. But all I’ve done is the laundry two days ago, and stocking up on groceries yesterday. Tonight? Well, its hard not stay in after I got my hands on the complete 6 seasons of Sex and the City; in a velvet pink disc holder - oh the thrill.

I do have grand plans to hit SoHo for a spot of shopping, brunch at Balthazaar, visit the Metropolitan museum and have cocktails by their rooftop bar come weekend, so stay tuned. For now though, I’ll be returning to Season 2 episode 6, my bar of 79% dark cocoa chocolate and handful of black cherries.

hello,

18 06 2008

Its laundry day!! - or rather evening, this photo was taken at 8pm FYI.

The temp was cool at a low of 15deg C, my day at work whizzed past my head, and I chanced upon a scene that made me stop in my tracks today.

This artist was standing with his easel and a huge folder of paints and tools, amidst the traffic of Manhattan painting the Flat Iron - I couldn’t help but ask him for a photo!

I would be so thrilled to get him out for coffee and ask what an artist’s life really is about – I read about how NYC is brimming with inspiration for the artist-types, is that true? How is it like trying to get a chance to exhibit? What is the income like?

But alas, I have no money to buy his paintings and I might come off as an overeager Asian chick trying to land a date. So I took the photo, got his email and promised to send it over to him.

The Lakers and Celtics are playing the determining Game 6 tonight on ABC. And of all nights, it is TONIGHT that my cable is all wonky in my apartment. I want to catch the game so badly!!!

This sports-speak is due to the influence from E (for the unitiated, that’s the intial of my boyfriend), I have since been into golf, basketball and tennis. The Federer and Nadal faceoffs and how Tiger Woods won the US open at Torrey Pines over sudden death is really quite exciting. Go on, give it a go. :)
